Before being installed at the musée Matisse in Nice, the exhibition “Matisse Metamorphoses” was presented from 30 August to 8 December 2019 in Zurich.
Committed to developing a dynamic of major cultural partnerships with national and international institutions, the musée Matisse naturally joined the Matisse Metamorphosis project initiated by the Zürich Kunsthaus.
The exhibition aimed to reveal the importance of the sculpted work of Henri Matisse, a little-known aspect of his art. A unique opportunity for the musée Matisse to highlight its exceptional collection of 58 sculptures from the Jean Matisse collection, donated in 1978 to the French State to be kept at the musée Matisse. Other masterpieces from the museum were also on display in Zurich, such as Nu bleu IV or the large brush drawings Grand acrobate and Arbre (Le Platane).
The exhibition, open from 30 August to 8 December 2019 at the Zürich Kunsthaus, then visited, in an adapted version, the Musée Matisse from 14 February to 15 September 2020.
