ours works travel: two masterpieces from the Musée on display at the SFMOMA
The Musée Matisse Nice is lending two major works from its collections to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
As custodian of an extraordinary collection, the musée Matisse has more than 1,500 works, objects and items of documentation. By its quality, richness and the diversity of artistic techniques represented, it’s one of the few public collections in the world where you can discover all the painted, sculpted, engraved and drawn works of Henri Matisse. This collection requires constant attention, and the museum works daily on preventative conservation and restoration operations for works and objects.
The institution also pursues historical research, scientific investigations and brings many stakeholders into play who all contribute to a better understanding of this collection and aim to bequeath this collection to future generations.
This fundamental work is highlighted during temporary exhibitions and through new educational spaces and innovative mediation tools, helping enrich the sensitive encounter between Matisse and the public.
Finally, the museum develops its national and international influence through a dynamic loan policy. These loans are a unique opportunity for the museum to show its masterpieces around the world and so increase its attractiveness on a global scale.
