Three portraits of Marguerite Duthuit-Matisse from the museum’s collections can be seen in two exhibitions:

Marguerite Duthuit-Matisse (1894-1982), Henri Matisse’s daughter and a constant model in her father’s work, played a key role in his career. Marguerite was an extraordinary woman who acted as an intermediary between Henri Matisse and the art world, supervising in particular the printing of Henri Matisse’s engravings. She was devoted to the defence of her father’s work, for which she worked on a catalogue raisonné. Arrested and tortured for acts of resistance, she was the driving force behind the creation of the Matisse Museum in Nice after the war, where she is buried (Château de Nice cemetery).
