The Musée Matisse Nice is honoured to be closely associated with a major exhibition dedicated to Henri Matisse in Paris, for which it has loaned 18 of his works. This exceptional partnership demonstrates the recognition of its collections and their influence and illustrates our museum’s commitment to collaborating with the world’s leading museums.
The Grand Palais, co-produced with the Centre Pompidou, is presenting a vast retrospective dedicated to the last 13 years of Henri Matisse’s work, a period of unparalleled artistic freedom and boldness. The exhibition features more than 230 works sourced from international collections and major museums.
The Musée Matisse Nice is playing an integral role with the exceptional loan of 18 masterpieces, including three on long-term loan from the French government. These emblematic loans – including Nature morte aux grenades [Still Life with Pomegranates] (1947), Danseuse créole [Creole Dancer] (1950) and Nu bleu IV [Blue Nude IV] (1952) – explore various techniques and recall the central role of the Côte d’Azur in Matisse’s creativity during this pivotal period.
The exhibition highlights the painter’s “second life”, between his famous “Interiors” of Vence, the album Jazz, the Blue Nudes and the monumental panels representing the cut-out revolution, the last great visual language invented by the artist.
