Partnership with the Centre Pompidou

In partnership with the Centre Pompidou, the musée Matisse is developing lines of research and scientific collaboration around Henri Matisse. This partnership takes the form of a policy of mutual loans.

In 2020, the City of Nice formalised the policy of collaboration already active between the Musée Matisse Nice, MAMAC and the Centre Pompidou, by signing a partnership agreement with the Parisian institution.

This agreement aims to encourage the mutual circulation of collections through loans, deposits of works and contributions to temporary exhibitions, as well as, where appropriate, through the co-production of exhibitions. Beyond programming, the partnership aims to promote the introduction of innovative projects to reach new audiences and so help provide wider access to art and culture. Finally, it aims to set up scientific collaborations to initiate new research perspectives around Henri Matisse.

For the musée Matisse, this partnership has already taken the shape of:

  • The loan to the Musée national d’art moderne of masterpieces from its collection for the exhibition “Matisse Roman” (21 October 2020 – 22 February 2021), among which we can mention Papeete – Tahiti, Le Fauteuil rocaille, Le Nu bleu IV plus a set of paper cut-out models for the chasubles of the Chapelle de Vence.
